The Middle Rhine Valley
The majestic Middle Rhine Valley extends 65km from Bingen, via Rüdesheim to Koblenz. In 2002, this most remarkable section of the Rhine gorge was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
Densely forested slopes and steep vineyards, romantic castles, enchanting palaces and picturesque ruins provide a breathtaking backdrop enthralling visitors from all corners of the globe.
The Rheingau
A seductive trio of natural beauty, fascinating culture and finest foods hallmarks the Rheingau region. Beginning in Wiesbaden, it borders the Rhine to Lorch before blending seamlessly into the UNESCO World Heritage Site "
Middle Rhine Valley".
The scenic vineyards of the world-famous Rheingau Rieslings are adorned by an abundance of monasteries, churches and castles. Verily a feast for the eyes and taste buds!
Country and people
The Rhine has been home to a colourful mix of peoples for thousands of years. Celts, Romans, Franconians, Prussians, French, Swedes, Spaniards ... all struggled through the centuries to control this vital trade route, and all left their mark on the region.
Such "internationality" characterises the Rhine dwellers to this day. They are outgoing, hospitable and keen revellers. Countless theatre and music festivals, as well as gourmet and wine events throughout the year testify to this.
